Our heritage is an interesting one.

Originally located on Upper Main Street in Valatie, The First Presbyterian Church began as the Second Reformed Church of Kinderhook in 1833. Two years later the church became known as The First Presbyterian Church of Valatie.

In 1878, the present edifice on Zion's Hill on Church Street was consecrated.

In January 1930, the Valatie Methodist Episcopal congregation was invited to join with The First Presbyterian Church and in 1935, the church came under the jurisdiction of the Albany Presbytery.

The church building was designed by English architect, Edward Ogden. In the fall of 1979 it was added to the National Register of Historic Places.
